ADVERTORIAL: Man City favourites to win Champions League final

City deserve to win the Champions League for the first time in their history – and I think they will.

Chelsea are probably the last team Pep Guardiola would like to take on in Porto tonight, but the squad he’s assembled is simply the best in the world and I cannot see anything other than a victory for the Blues.

I suspect it will be tight though, and Betfred have City winning 1-0 at 5/1. They are 2/1 to win the final to-nil, which is also a solid bet in my book.

Chelsea may have had the better of City of late with wins in the FA Cup semi-final and the league, but this has just got to be their year. The Abu Dhabi owners have put so much into reviving City, hiring tactical genius Guardiola and giving him the cash to create a squad that is second to none.

I’m saying all this as a Red, and fair play as it is deserved. Frankly, I don’t mind taking a hit to the tune of over half a million pounds on our noisy neighbours lifting the greatest prize in club football.

Even without being able to watch their heroes in the flesh for virtually the whole season, City fans have been piling on their team, who were 9/2 for the Champions League at the beginning of the season – and 28/1 for the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup treble.

Barcelona-bound Sergio Aguero put himself back in the frame for the final after his two-goal salvo in the thumping of Everton on Sunday. For the life of me I can’t understand why the Argentine is being allowed to leave – I can only guess it means either Harry Kane or Erling Haaland will replace him in the summer.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Aguero came off the bench, or even started, and scored the winner tonight? What a finale to a simply brilliant career at the Etihad that would be.

All Aguero’s headlines have been around his tremendous goalscoring, and I do have a feeling he could well write one last headline tonight. Betfred have it at 16/1 for Aguero to score the winner in a 1-0 triumph for the Blues.

We also have Kevin de Bruyne at 9/1 to score from outside the penalty area, with Europe’s most accomplished midfielder, who may well start as a false nine, at 3/1 to hit the back of the net anytime.

In Stockport-born Phil Foden, City have unearthed a star who could one day challenge Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the top individual honours in the game. If you think he can do the business and score the opener in Portugal this evening, he’s 5/1 at Betfred.
