Alan Shearer has backed Tottenham striker Harry Kane to break his Premier League goalscoring record if he joins Manchester City this summer.
The 27-year-old has also been linked with moves to Manchester United and Chelsea, but Shearer feels that if the Citizens do snap up the England captain, he will comfortably become the league’s all-time leading scorer:
“He will absolutely obliterate (my record) if he goes to Manchester City in three or four years. Harry will go for anything between £100-150 million, so it will be in and around that.”
There is some dispute in the English press over whether City have actually tabled a formal offer for Kane, but most reports suggest that discussions are, at least, taking place between the two teams.
Shearer’s suggestion that Spurs will demand between £100m and £150m is likely to be correct, but that would mean doubling City’s current transfer record.
With the Manchester club reluctant to do that, they want to include players in the deal, but that is not something that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is thought to be considering. This could well be a long-drawn-out transfer saga.
