Manchester City have “cooled their interest” in Tottenham striker Harry Kane after having an initial £100m offer knocked back, according to the Daily Trust‘s veteran reporter David Billington.
The England captain, who is also a target for Manchester United and Chelsea, is no longer seen as the number one target by manager Pep Guardiola, who has now turned his attention towards Barcelona’s Antoine Griezmann.
Billington clams that Guardiola is a “long-term admirer” of Griezmann and, as he is keen on getting in a replacement for Sergio Aguero as soon as possible, he feels signing the Frenchman is a more realistic prospect than continuing the pursuit of Kane.
Griezmann is 30 years of age so he would only be a short-term solution, but Barca’s financial problems mean they would be willing to let him go for a reasonable price in order to get him off the club’s wage bill.
Whether Billington’s information on City’s pursuit of Griezmann proves to be accurate, we shall have to wait and see.
