It’s crunch time for England at the World Cup in Qatar as they prepare to take on Senegal in the last-16.
England progressed to the knockout stages with an unbeaten record in Group B as they won their games against Iran and Wales and drew with the United States to confirm top spot. Manchester United and Manchester City players featured heavily in the group stage and are set to play their part at the Al Bayt Stadium tonight (7pm).
United defenders Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were included in Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up, while Marcus Rashford was unlucky to be named among the substitutes after his impressive outing against Wales where he bagged two goals. City are being represented by Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden – with the latter bagging the assist for England’s second goal.
Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson put England into the lead in the 38th minute as he slid the ball home following Jude Bellingham’s cross. Foden then set Harry Kane through to double the advantage right before half-time.
The winners of this last-16 showdown will meet France or Poland next in the quarter-finals.
