David James believes Jack Grealish has fitted in well with Manchester City and has told the Premier League to watch out.
City broke the bank for the former Aston Villa captain, spending a British record fee to take him from Villa Park to the Etihad.
Despite losing starts to Leicester City in the Community Shield and then an opening day Premier League defeat to Tottenham, Grealish and City have bounced back in tremendous form.
Grealish starred and scored in his first start for the club, beating Norwich City 5-0, and followed that with another five-goal display a week later when they beat Arsenal.
City’s No. 10 impressed while on international duty with England and returned to club action by scoring a goal in his Champions League debut, the team’s fourth of the night in a 6-3 win over RB Leipzig.
For James, who spent time with both Villa and City in a playing career which spanned over two decades, Grealish’s move to the Premier League Champions intrigued him.
“This is a player who, in Jack Grealish, who I was expecting so much,” James said in an interview with Sky Sports.
“When I say different, when he was going to go to Man City I was trying to work out how the Aston Villa Jack Grealish was going to fit into Manchester City side.
“But at the same time, going away from the performances obviously because of the defeat, he’s fitted in.
“And again, after the game [on Wednesday night], he was speaking the way that he was… it was like Pep was asking or demanding more from the team and I wasn’t sure if he was the team or Jack in particular.
“Jack said: Yeah, I’ve got to listen to him” and [has] enough respect and he just seems that he is thriving off that environment.
“The fact that he’s scored and assisted for City last night is obviously a bonus to that but with six goals being scored by City there was a chance that he would either be one of the scorers or an assist.
“Again, it’s going so well for Jack Grealish and the rest of the Premier League needs to look out.”
