Manchester City star Erling Haaland enjoyed a break from training with the Blues with a meal at swanky Italian restaurant San Carlo this week. But his choice of outfit for a trip to the well-known celeb haunt in Manchester certainly got people talking.
The King Street San Carlo is one of Manchester’s most famous restaurants where A-listers from across the world have chosen to party over the years including the likes of Rihanna, David Beckham, Russell Crowe and Michelle Keegan. Haaland is one of a galaxy of Manchester footballers who have frequented the restaurant over the years.
The lofty striker was pictured inside the Italian restaurant shaking hands with the suited-and-booted restaurant manager while he wore his blue Man City tracksuit. The post was shared on San Carlo’s Instagram and Facebook feeds on Saturday to their thousands of followers with the caption: “It’s always a pleasure @erling.haaland.”
But the City star footballer’s choice of sport-casual outfit was a big point of debate in the comments. Some felt it was too casual an ensemble for a restaurant, although others said he can wear whatever he likes.
Commenting on Facebook William Sharp said: “Who goes out for tea in a tracksuit?” while Nicola H wrote: “I’d never wear trackers to San Carlo. Scruff.”
Paul Bailey said: “Wearing a tracksuit at San Carlo.. I wish I could get away with that! Must treat myself to one!” Nadine Bramley said: “Could have dressed up a bit more for San Carlo”.
While Malcolm Davies joked: “Can somebody buy Haaland a proper shirt and trousers.”
But others pointed out that the talented 22-year-old footballer could have headed to dine there straight after training with his team-mates. Others added that he’s free to wear what he likes.
Sheila Comfort said: “I think he is dressed perfectly”. While Mike Taylor added: “It not what you wear, it’s how you wear it”.
There was debate about whether a tracksuit is appropriate for dining out in Manchester, as some restaurant, pubs ands bars in the city centre do ban sportswear. But the MEN has checked on San Carlo’s website and booking forms and it does not appear to have a formal dress code for diners at the King Street venue.
Haaland, who is set to line-up for the Blues this afternoon against Wolves, has been spotted at San Carlo before. He was pictured at the restaurant in October 2022 celebrating his iconic hat-trick in the 6-3 drubbing of rivals Manchester United.
On that occasion he chose to wear a VERY glamorous outfit. He chose a blouson adorned with an image of the most famous woman in the world – Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
He is no stranger to designer fashion either – as he’s the current cover star for men’s fashion magazing GQ this month in their second ever global sports issue. For that shoot, he donned seriously high end designer togs – a £2,000 jacket and £690 Givenchy jumper.
