‘Has to play’ – Man City fans go wild as star teenager Samuel Edozie continues scoring run

Manchester City capped off their pre-season preparations ahead of the forthcoming campaign with a 4-1 victory over Championship outfit Blackpool this evening, ensuring they have completed their warm-up schedule with three wins from three matches.

Goals from Samuel Edozie, Ilkay Gundogan (2) and Riyad Mahrez sealed a third successive victory for Pep Guardiola’s side at the Academy Stadium despite the visitors restoring party before half time via Luke Garbutt successfully converted a penalty.

This evening’s win for City means they will head into Saturday’s FA Community Shield clash with Leicester City at Wembley with a spring in their step, following on from the victories over Preston North End, Barnsley and Blackpool in the past week.

All three of those victories have had two common themes: Edozie and Mahrez getting themselves on the scoresheet.

Whilst Mahrez’s strikes against (with respect) lesser opposition will not have to as too great a surprise to many City fans, the rise of Edozie has been impressive.

The 18 year old, who joined City from Millwall as a scholar just over two years ago, has been nothing short of outstanding during the victories over Preston, Barnsley and Blackpool, with his goal-per-game tally standing as testament to that.

Having been so impressive in City’s three pre-season outings, Guardiola is now being urged by some of City’s fans to include Edozie, who can operate on either flank, in his starting line-up against Leicester.

Below, MEN Sport has taken a close look at what some City supporters have had to say about the youngster, with some hopeful that he will get the chance to grace the Wembley turf this weekend.

As you can see from the messages displayed above, there is a sense of excitement concerning Edozie’s future at the Etihad Stadium, with no shortage of City fans pretty determined to see how his career maps out under Guardiola’s watch.

Though only 18 and still plenty to learn, Edozie could well prove to be the next big-name to emerge from City’s conveyor belt of exciting talent with massive potential.
