Jack Grealish is ‘only going to get better’ after stunning Champions League debut for Man City

It’s fair to say that eyebrows were raised when Manchester City shelled out a whopping £100million on Jack Grealish earlier this summer. Those eyebrow raisers are looking a bit daft now.

Despite being City’s – and the Premier League’s – most expensive player of all time, Grealish is already proving he’s worth every penny of the eye-watering fee City paid for him, with a goal and an assist on his Champions League debut further demonstrating his ability to step up when needed.

Following Pep Guardiola’s side’s 6-3 win over RB Leipzig on Wednesday, City Fan Brands writer Alex Brotherton was joined by Ross Jackson on the City is Ours Facebook Live stream as the pair discussed the English midfielder’s start to life at City.

RJ – “We’ve already seen he can play on the left or the right and if he plays on the right he’s equally as dangerous because of the way he can just cut inside and draw players out. He just makes defences come to him and he can make things happen from doing that.”

AB – “Nothing seems to phase him, does it? He comes into the England team, he’s the name on everyone’s lips, he signs for City for £100million, does really well in his opening game and then on his Champions League debut he gets an assist and a goal.”

“There’s not much more to say about him, is there? He’s just brilliant!”

RJ – “Every level he’s played at he’s raised his game. Every time he’s had to do it. He had a massive part to play in [Aston] Villa’s promotion. He effectively single-handedly managed to keep Villa in the league in their first season back in the Premier League.

“If you put a player of his quality in that team he’s only going to get better and training with the likes of [Kevin] De Bruyne, [Riyad] Mahrez and some of the players in City’s side, he’s only going to get better day after day.”

That is because we are expanding our horizons and starting to bring even more to you from a whole host of different voices. We have appointed a whole host of people who – like our journalists – care deeply about what’s happening at Etihad Stadium – but sit in the stands rather than the press box.

We want to give you raw, authentic fan voices about the big issues at Man City – which is why the story you have read today might sit on Manchester Evening News for now, and is part of the MEN family, but is not representative of those who work there full time.

Keep your eyes peeled for more info on where you can read more from this author in the future. But in the meantime, we hope you enjoy what they have written.

“He already is an absolutely brilliant player and he’s only going to get even better. I don’t think anyone would say they’re surprised that he’s managed to raise his game like he has since he moved to City.”

AB – “It’s another string to City’s bow. I think it’s great to have him in the team and it doesn’t look like he will lose his spot any time soon. The other guys are going to have a bit of a challenge replacing him in the side because he’s showing he is worth every penny of that £100million transfer fee that City paid.

It’s safe to say that Grealish has kicked off his City career in the best possible fashion and he’s proving on a weekly basis that he’s capable of playing at the highest level.
