Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Kalvin Phillips missed the 3-2 win over Liverpool on Thursday due to fitness issues.
The 27-year-old had spent a lengthy period on the sidelines with a shoulder injury earlier this season but it was believed that his problems were now behind him after being included in England’s squad for the World Cup. However, Guardiola has hinted that he has suffered another setback:
“Kalvin Phillips is not fit. He did not arrive in the best condition to train and play.”
Fans on Twitter are not best pleased with Phillips’ situation and many believe that the club have an injury-prone player on their hands:

It should be pointed out that Phillips had recurring hamstring problems last season, which limited him to just 23 appearances, so it is not as though City were unaware of his recent injury record.
Even so, nobody would have predicted that he would have only played four games by Christmas, and he could potentially miss a reunion against Leeds on Wednesday, as well as the games coming up versus Everton and Chelsea.
