Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said that Borussia Dortmund are “very optimistic” about keeping Erling Haaland for another season.

Rummenigge recently had coffee with Dortmund’s chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke, who told him there is a still a possibility that the Norwegian international could stay at Signal Iduna Park:

“I recently had an espresso with my ex-colleague Aki Watzke in Munich. He told me that he was very optimistic that Haaland would still play for Borussia Dortmund next season.”

Haaland reportedly has a release clause that comes into effect at the end of the current campaign, but there are doubts over whether any team can afford his wages and agent fees.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have all been mentioned as potential destinations and all six teams wouldn’t have trouble paying the €75m (£63m) needed to sign him.

However, it is believed that both Haaland’s representative Mino Raiola and father Alf Inge Haaland want substantial payoffs, while the player has salary demands that could amount to £30m a year.

For those reasons, it seems that Dortmund have not given up hope of keeping Haaland, who has scored an impressive 13 goals in 10 appearances for the Bundesliga club so far this campaign.
