Lionel Messi will address the media this morning after his departure from Barcelona.
Barcelona confirmed Messi will not stay at the Nou Camp despite the club and player agreeing a new contract. La Liga’s financial rules mean that keeping Messi on a new deal is not possible after his contract expired this summer. He is now free to leave after spending his entire career at Barca.
Manchester City have been linked with a move for Messi, especially after stating their interest last year when the Argentine looked to depart the Nou Camp. However, Pep Guardiola reacted to the news at the end of the week by suggesting that City won’t move for the 34-year-old, with a new striker still the priority in the transfer market.
Paris Saint-Germain are widely reported to be ready to offer Messi a deal that would see him reunite with Neymar and play under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino.
