Man City will be looking for another place in the history books when they host Southampton in the Premier League this weekend.
Pep Guardiola’s side know a positive result is needed if they are to keep up the early pace in the new campaign and strengthen their ambitions of regaining their top-flight crown.
The Blues have been in fine form since their opening day defeat away at Tottenham and claim yet another record when they return to the comfort of the Etihad this weekend.
City have won each of their home Premier League games by a 5-0 scoreline already this season and also won by the same margin on the final day of last season against Everton.
If they win by a five goal difference again this weekend they will become the first team in Premier League history to ever win four consecutive matches by such a scoreline – and only the third team in English top-flight history to ever do so.
Currently the only sides to achieve such a feat are Aston Villa back in 1899 and Everton back in 1931.
City have won eight of their last nine Premier League meetings with Southampton at all venues and the Saints have lost nine of their last 10 visits to the Etihad.
