Man City’s unwelcome Premier League visitor and other moments missed in Chelsea win

Manchester City enjoyed a celebratory afternoon at the Etihad this weekend as they beat Chelsea 1-0 on a sunny Sunday.

The party atmosphere was building throughout the day and the relaxed tone was reflected by Pep Guardiola’s team selection. City’s boss made nine changes to his side which beat Real Madrid so comprehensively earlier in the week. Two of those replacements linked up for the only goal of the game as the Blues capitalised on a Wesley Fofana mistake. Cole Palmer read the situation well to square the ball to Julian Alvarez to slot home.

Chelsea rarely threatened but Conor Gallagher came closest for the visitors when his header hit the post. In the baking sunshine, City were eventually able to celebrate their title success.

Here are some of the moments you may have missed.

Premier League chief executive attends title celebrations

Since the Premier League charged City with 115 offences, the Blues supporters have shown their disdain to the division by booing the anthem before kick-off. It was therefore surprising to see the league’s chief executive Richard Masters at the Etihad.

Masters was spotted by MEN Sport soaking up the atmosphere before the game as the supporters waited for the team bus to arrive. While he may have been impressed by the supporters’ showing, he will not have approved of the reception the anthem received later.

Emotional Laporte

Very rarely are players seen walking around the pitch prior to kick-off but this is exactly what Aymeric Laporte did before City’s game with Chelsea. He was spotted by MEN Sport taking in the surroundings and watching the highlights from last season’s dramatic final-day victory over Aston Villa.

It has been rumoured Laporte could be leaving the club in the summer and he hinted at ‘new beginnings’ earlier this year. Laporte was also spotted post-match in tears after the Blues lifted the title on the pitch.

Ederson takes the celebrations to the next level

The Brazilian goalkeeper was one player who was dropped by Guardiola for the Chelsea victory but it did not dampen his spirit. Ederson, along with Laporte, decided to dye his hair blue for the special day.
