Manchester City in pole position to sign Erling Haaland and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are in ‘pole position’ to sign Erling Haaland.

That’s according to German outlet Bild who claim the Blues are leading the race to land Haaland’s signature next year after Borussia Dortmund held firm and refused to sell the 21-year-old centre-forward this summer, despite receiving intense interest in the player.

Etihad chiefs made it their priority to replace Sergio Aguero in the transfer window and, after missing out on Haaland and Harry Kane, they ultimately failed in that department, although their £100m deal to bring Jack Grealish to the club might soften that blow.

Regardless of Grealish’s arrival, City will again attempt to operate without a recognised centre-forward this season – Aguero was limited to sporadic involvement last term – but the fresh details suggest they are planning for that to change next campaign.

Haaland has built a reputation as one of the world’s most exciting young prospects after scoring 41 goals in 41 games across all competitions last season and it’s believed the Dortmund star has a clause in his contract which could soon be triggered for €75m.

As touched upon, the MEN understand it was actually Kane who was identified as City’s number one target this summer, though.

Tottenham refused to negotiate with City for Kane and that crucially led to the three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner releasing a statement that claimed it was his intention to stay at the club, which put an end to the transfer saga.

Now, Kane has commented further on the matter, admitting that his conscience is clear over the links with City.

“Anyone involved in the football industry knows the ins and outs and I was calm with the situation. It was between me and the club, when you know the truth and you know what it going on, your conscience is clear,” Kane told talkSPORT.
