Phil Foden is aiming to get back to his best as soon as possible after returning to Manchester City action this week.
City had been without Foden for the first month of the season after he picked up a foot injury while representing England at Euro 2020, which also saw him miss the Three Lions’ final defeat to Italy.
However, the 21-year-old made his long-awaited return during Wednesday’s 6-3 thumping of RB Leipzig with 19 minutes remaining and also came off the bench in Saturday’s goalless stalemate with Southampton.
Now Foden is aiming to get his match sharpness up so he can return to form.

“It’s really nice to be back from such a long injury,” he told City’s in-house media. “It was a difficult one to get over but now I’m back I’m enjoying my football and just trying to take every game as it comes.
“It takes quite a while [to get back to full sharpness back]. Personally when I’ve had injuries to get it back but that will come with more minutes I get and hopefully I’ll be back to my best soon.”
It was a tough afternoon for the Blues as they were unable to defeat the Saints and had just one shot on target in 90 minutes.
Though it looked like Foden had won the match in the 90th minute as he and Raheem Sterling pounced on a rebound to break the deadlock, but the goal was then disallowed for off-side.
The ‘Stockport Iniesta’ wants City to take the positives from the game and quickly move on.
“I thought I won it at the end there with the goal, but VAR ruled it out, on another day we come away with the three points,” he added.
“Southampton made it difficult for us today. We just need to move on from it and look forward to the next game.
“Every Premier League game is very physical, we can still take positives from the game.
“We didn’t give up till the end and we gave everything. We need to keep that mentality into the next games.
“Maybe if we had an extra five-10 minutes maybe we would have snatched a goal but with so many players up the pitch, we could have been done the other way as well. So all I can say is Southampton gave us a great game today and we just need to go again.”
