Ruben Dias says Cristiano Ronaldo return makes Manchester United ‘strong candidate’

Ruben Dias believes Cristiano Ronaldo re-signing for Manchester United in the summer makes them ‘strong candidates’ for the Premier League title this season.

Ronaldo penned a two-year contract at Old Trafford on deadline day, completing a sensational return to the club 12 years after leaving for Real Madrid. The Portugal captain has scored three goals in his first two games for the club since signing and is being seen by many as a huge reason why United could win their first title since 2013.

Dias, who plays alongside Ronaldo for their national team, is currently at Man City and has revealed that he believes the return of the 36-year-old makes United ‘strong candidates’ while also praising the level he maintains despite his age.

Speaking to Sport TV, via A Bola, Dias said: “Cristiano, year after year, continues to be at a high level.

“He has come up big again. He returns to one of the most competitive leagues in the world and to one of the clubs with the most ambitions. It’s a big step for him.

“We won’t be predicting the future, but obviously United come out reinforced and become more and more a strong candidate.”

Dias featured for City as they were held to a goalless draw against Southampton in the Premier League at the weekend, while Ronaldo is expected to start once again when United take on West Ham in the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon looking to return to the top of the table.
