Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has confirmed that he wants to take the fifth penalty if there is a shootout against Chelsea in the Champions League final.
The Citizens have struggled to score penalties over the last two seasons, and it is believed that Ederson, despite being a keeper, is the best taker in the squad. When asked about the possibility of taking part in the shootout, Ederson replied:
“I am [on the list to take a penalty]. I don’t need to train that much, but the fifth one, I’m taking it. The last one, the decisive, I’ll ask for it…”
Supporters on Twitter are very much in two minds with regards to putting Ederson on spot-kick duties. Although most believe he has the confidence to score one under pressure, the fact that he has never taken one in a competitive game for City does count against him:

If it were to go to penalties we should just go straight to the showers.

To be honest, with City’s atrocious record from 12 yards, manager Pep Guardiola really doesn’t have anything to lose by agreeing to put Ederson in the first five to step up and take a penalty. Fans will, though, be hoping that the team can win the game in normal time on Saturday.
