Manchester City are currently ahead of Chelsea in the battle to sign Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku, according to reports in the UK.
It is believed that, while Blues owner Roman Abramovich has prioritised a move for the 28-year-old, City are currently prepared to offer the forward a better salary.
The Citizens have made signing a replacement for Sergio Aguero their number one goal this summer and, along with Chelsea, they see snapping up Lukaku as an easier deal than signing the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. The majority of fans on Twitter, though, seem to be against pursuing the Belgian:
We really need stop right now. Lukaku? Seriously? Then why sell aguero?!

Bro wtf is going on. He doesn’t fit the team simple as that. Sign Harry and get it over with. They can have Lukaku for all I care. That’ll be like their 5th striker

Only conte can manage him… Pep would rather play a false 9 than play Lukaku

While Lukaku did score 30 goals in all competitions for Inter last season, he didn’t impress during his last spell in England with Manchester United so it is understandable why some supporters would be against the move.
However, with Inter said to be open to selling the striker due to financial problems, he does seem to be the most realistic target to strengthen City’s frontline currently.
