Former Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from professional football due to health reasons.

The club legend left the Etihad for Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer, but it was discovered that he had a heart condition after having to be subbed due to chest problems in the 1-1 draw against Alaves back in October:

Aguero will go down as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats and City fans paid tribute to him on Twitter:

So sad man?

Always will be remembered for that special goal that lifted us above the red side and put us where we belong, farewell and enjoy your retirement – “Sergio Sergio “?

Aguero scored a staggering 260 goals in 390 appearances for City across a ten-year period, with 184 of those coming in the Premier League. The 33-year-old is fourth on the all-time list behind Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Andy Cole.

His most memorable goal will, of course, be his stoppage time winner against QPR in the 3-2 victory that sealed City’s first Premier League title in 2012. A statue has been announced by the club, which will be unveiled alongside the existing ones of Vincent Kompany and David Silva next year.
