We simulated Man City vs Chelsea to get a prediction for Champions League final

Manchester City will take part in the first Champions League final in their history on Saturday evening, as they take on fellow Premier League side Chelsea at Estádio do Dragão.

Despite scoring twice in his final Premier League appearance for City, Sergio Aguero isn’t likely to start, with Pep Guardiola expected to go with a strikerless system with Bernardo Silva playing as a false nine.

Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez are expected to start in the wide areas, with Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Ferran Torres likely to feature on the bench.

So, what line-up will Guardiola go with against Chelsea in the final? And, what will the final score be? We used FIFA 21 to get a score prediction. This is what happened..

City vs Chelsea score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn’t select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself.

The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries, and suspensions.

We predict that City could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with the line-up as follows: Ederson; Walker, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Gundogan, Foden, Bernardo, Mahrez.

We predict that Chelsea could set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation, with the line-up as follows: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Silva, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kovacic, Alonso; Mount, Pulisic; Werner

The first goal of this simulated Champions League final came after just nine minutes, with Chelsea the team to strike first.

Mason Mount received the ball on the edge of the City box and threaded a pass into Timo Werner, who produced a great finish that curled past Ederson to make it 1-0.

But around 15 minutes later, City were back on level terms.

Riyad Mahrez skinned Ben Chilwell on the byline, advanced into the area and played a pass into Bernardo Silva, who finished from close range to make it 1-1.

And, just before half-time, City completed their comeback and took the lead, through an unlikely source.

After a flowing passing move, the ball ended up at the feet of Fernandinho on the edge of the Chelsea area.

The Brazilian produced a stunning strike with his weaker left foot, which flew into the corner, with Mendy beaten all ends up.

The second-half was a much tighter affair, with City having the majority of possession and looking to slow the game down, whilst Chelsea weren’t being overly ambitious in attack.

But with ten minutes to go, Tuchel sent on Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic, and the Blues went all-out attack.

With five minutes to go, their change of approach was rewarded with a late equaliser, when Mount found some space inside the City area and smashed an effort in at the near post.

And so, the game advanced to extra time.

The first half of extra time flew by, with no real chances for either side, but that was all about to change.

With eight minutes remaining in the final, Bernardo Silva won the Champions League for City.

Mahrez again found space on the right and gave the ball to Silva in the area, who turned and produced a sensational finish into the corner to make it 3-2.
