Former Chelsea captain John Terry is adamant that Manchester City duo Jack Grealish and Phil Foden will have prominent roles for England during the World Cup.

Both players were benched by manager Gareth Southgate for the opening game against Iran on Monday but Terry feels the pair will have a part to play in matches going forward:

“I think Foden and Grealish will play a big part in this competition because they want the ball. They want to isolate defenders. They make you go two-v-one.”

Grealish scored after coming on in the 6-2 win yesterday so the winger couldn’t really do a lot more to make a case for himself to start.

Foden, meanwhile, came on to play in central midfield, and he took up a lot of promising positions, suggesting he could be deployed successfully as a starter in that role for games later in the tournament.

England take on the USA in their next group fixture on Friday, and it will be interesting to see whether either Grealish or Foden are given the nod to start after their impressive cameos.
